Finding conjugate stabilizer subgroups of PSL(2;q)

چکیده
We reduce a case of the hidden subgroup problem (HSP) in several families of finite groups of Lie type, such as SL(2; q), PSL(2; q), and PGL(2; q), to efficiently solvable HSPs in the affine group AGL(1; q). These groups act on projective space in an “almost” 3-transitive way, and we use this fact in each group to distinguish conjugates of its Borel (upper triangular) subgroup. Our observation is purely grouptheoretic, and as such breaks little new ground in quantum algorithms. Nonetheless, these appear to be the first positive results on the HSP in finite simple groups such as PSL(2; q).

Maximum sum element orders of all proper subgroups of PGL(2, q)
In this paper we show that if q is a power of a prime p , then the projective special linear group PSL(2, q) and the stabilizer of a point of the projective line have maximum sum element orders among all proper subgroups of projective general linear group PGL(2, q) for q odd and even respectively
متن کاملOn 2-transitive Collineation Groups of Finite Projective Spaces
In 1961, A. Wagner proposed the problem of determining all the subgroups of PΓL(n> q) which are 2-transitive on the points of the projective space PGin — l,q), where n ^ 3. The only known groups with this property are: those containing PSL^n, q), and subgroups of PSL(4, 2) isomorphic to A7. It seems unlikely that there are others, Wagner proved that this is the case when n ^ 5. In unpublished w...

We determine all maximal subgroups of the almost simple groups with socle T = PSL(2, q), that is, of all groups G such that PSL(2, q) 6 G 6 PΓL(2, q), with q ≥ 4.

We present a partial classification of those finite linear spaces S on which an almost simple group G with socle PSL(3, q) acts line-transitively. A linear space S is an incidence structure consisting of a set of points Π and a set of lines Λ in the power set of Π such that any two points are incident with exactly one line. The linear space is called non-trivial if every line contains at least ...
